Elk Hunts in Colorado

Welcome to Pack String Ranch Outfitters. Our Mountain Wilderness Elk hunts are second to none. Located on the Flat Top Wilderness GMU 24 and 25, we have multiple secluded walled tent camps that can only be reached by horseback or foot. The Flat Top Wilderness area is roughly 230,000 acres with the largest herd of elk in the United States. It is also known to be one of the most forgiving terrain that elk inhabit making it suitable for any hunter to hunt without the vertical terrain elk typically live in. There are many peaks and draws that lead into Colorado's Flat Tops Wilderness, but some of the most beautiful and abundant elk habitat is on the plateau. It can take anywhere from 2 to 5 hours on horseback to get to this location, but it is well worth it. At Pack String Ranch Outfitters we strive to get our hunters the best opportunity possible to harvest their elk. We go the extra mile on our camp facilities as well. We have great equipment and a professional and friendly staff with over 40 years of combined elk hunting experience. Our guided hunters are fed three meals a day that are prepared by a cook on site. The food is always fresh and warm. Naturally, your food will taste better in the wild. All hunting camps are seven day hunts which consist of packing into camp on the first day, five full hunting days, and packing out on the last day. If you are the more “adventurous” type, we do offer drop camps and semi-guided hunts. Arrangements can also be made for additional days of archery and muzzle hunts at an additional cost. We will make every effort to arrange hunt dates to fit your hunting schedule.

A wilderness hunt is a great experience for any hunter. You won’t have the comforts of home, and being at about 10,000 feet elevation will be a little harder on the body, but the sound of the forest and elk bugling, the stars at night, and the morning mist will leave you with something you will never forget. You will be packing in on horseback, sleeping in walled tents on a cot in a sleeping bag. You will be getting up early and going to bed late. With the cold morning air, the wood burning stove in your tent will be a blessing. The camaraderie that will be developed at camp and the hunt itself will leave you with many great memories. At Pack String Ranch Outfitters not only do we offer a great harvesting opportunity, we leave you with a great experience.

So by me saying this, come join me, Bobby Lane and my staff for the Hunt of a Lifetime.
